The allele comparison is supported in defined Chinese wheat populations and genetic backgrounds across specified normal/low-nitrogen field and hydroponic conditions, not an unbounded wheat-wide estimate. MEASUREMENT

Exact excerpt
The study performed candidate-gene and genome-wide association analyses in 244 wheat accessions. TaNPF7.6-A1mod had higher NAA, GNA, and grain yield than TaNPF7.6-A1lan under normal- and low-nitrogen fields; the allele comparison comprised 98 mod and 146 lan accessions. Functional tests used near-isogenic lines and overexpression/knockout lines in ZM7698 and Fielder backgrounds, with hydroponic assays at 2 mM versus 0.2 mM nitrate and field trials in Henan, China. Field plot comparisons were replicated five times; NIL/ZM7698/Z-NO2 trials ran two years, while Fielder/F-NO2 ran one year.
