Exact excerpt
The study planted over 25,000 trees in an 11.5 ha former sheep pasture in Wales and monitored 6,400 individually for four years (2021–2024). In the 72-plot factorial design, ERW-amended broadleaf plots stored 27% more aboveground tree carbon by 2024 than unamended plots, whereas ERW effects on spruce carbon sequestration were not statistically significant. Soil inoculum effects varied among species and diminished through time.
