Exact excerpt
The 98-day river alkalinity enhancement trial was conducted in the Kvina River, Norway, within an existing liming programme. An additional 1,480 tonnes of calcite raised the existing pH from 6.0 to 6.8. CDR was quantified by comparing the increase in alkalinity export at the river mouth with a limed control site. The trial generated 250 ± 30 tonnes CO2-equivalent of gross CDR, or 54% of the theoretical maximum. Apart from phosphate, no other measured nutrients, trace metals, or adverse water-quality indicators increased significantly. The findings are explicitly described as site-specific to hydrology, feedstock, and lifecycle conditions.
