Exact excerpt
Reefs restored using a stone substrate plus juvenile oysters attached to adult oyster shells (called ‘spat-on-shell’) exhibited the highest habitat scores, showing greater vertical relief and structural complexity than reefs restored with spat-on-shell alone or those that had been continuously harvested. Restored reefs supported fewer total fish but significantly larger individual fish, with the highest abundance of fish exceeding 30 centimeters (12 inches) in length found on reefs restored with stone.
