Exact excerpt
In total, geometric ornamentation features on 11 of the figurines; most display meander ornamentation combined with parallel zigzags. Geometric ornaments on the reverse appear to echo the natural crosshatched pattern occurring within the ivory itself, known as Schreger lines. Parallel diagonal lines engraved into F1, F3, and F7 additionally echo the rings visible in the internal structure of mammoth ivory.
