The primary study qualifies MCA1 involvement: distal depolarization is reduced but not eliminated in mca1 mutants, other channels contribute, and MCA1 is not required for the local wound response. DIRECT_TEXT

Exact excerpt
After wounding a distant lateral root, we observed a reduced depolarization amplitude in mca1, but not in osca1 mutant (mca1: 38.2 ± 6.8%, P = 0.0075; osca1: 92.1 ± 12.4%, P > 0.999). This indicates that MCA1, but not OSCA1, channels are involved in decoding the mechanical long-distance signals from the wounding site to neighboring lateral roots. Nevertheless, mutating this channel could not completely wipe out distant wound-evoked depolarization, indicating that other channels contribute to this phenomenon. However, no difference in the amplitude and kinetics of the wound depolarization in osca1 and mca1 plants compared to wild type was observed for local wounding.
